Here's how to do a sweet cage in a Midget. Start with a rust free tub (thanks Spridgetech!) & dip all the paint / crap off (Best $300 I've ever spent - International Paint & Stripping in Romulus, MI) - Note: this removed ZERO metal just paint, undercoating, and RUST! The cage was designed so a somewhat large fellow (such as myself) can actually fit comfortably in a Midget.
Holy Cow! March 13th! One month before drivers school (never made it...)
Clean. Clean. Clean. The SCCA roll cage rules limit mounting plates to 100^2 inches. The drivers door beams (X) just about touch the outer door skin.
Note the horizontal bar / rear seat mount. Battery tray was re-tacked in at spot weld locations.... Fuel Cell wound up here in the middle. Just happened to work out that the rear spring mounts met up with the roll cage mounting plates (heh heh) Due to the brief time remaining before the 1st race, This was about the last picture taken of the setup (epoxy primer) |
